May 10

Fort Campbell, Ciao Bella & Jazz

Sponsored by: David Van Hoven & Mike Schultz

Dave Van Hoven has planned an outstanding array of activity for his trip to Clarksville on May 10th and he would enjoy your company.

He is starting the day out by meeting at the Shoney's located at the "Bellevue Center Mall" interchange of I-40 West and U.S. 70 South at Exit 196 at 10:30 AM for a late breakfast. As usual, have your radios, a full tank of gas & an empty bladder. Dave will be pulling out around 11:30 AM and has picked out some great backroads & twisties thru the Cheatam County countryside to Clarksville. Dave has planned one potty stop in route to Clarksville. We'll be meeting up with Mike Schultz at the I-24 Kentucky Welcome Center, just inside Kentucky. Mike will provide the lead for the Kentucky segment of the event.

Dave has us arriving at FortCampbell (http://www.campbell.army.mil/Home of the 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Division Screaming Eagles between 1:30 & 2:00 PM. He has planned a visit to the Don F Pratt Division Museumhttp://www.fortcampbell.com/pratt.php. For over 40 years, the Don F. Pratt Museum has performed the important and honorable tasks of preserving this legacy and commemorating the patriotic men and women who have served at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. It includes a wide array of historical artifacts commemorating division personnel who have served their country, including the Atomic Cannon.

Following the visit to the museum, Mike Schultz has arranged an "behind the scenes" tour of the military compound with "on air" commentary via our radios, that may include enlisted quarters, officer quarters, post Admin/HQ, Air Assault School, Campbell Army Air Field, Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, and so on. All participants will require a valid driver's license photo ID, current vehicle registration & current vehicle insurance evidence in order to gain security clearance onto the active military base. Dave will be in touch with every participant to obtain the necessary information required for your advance gate security pass onto the base.  Without this documentation, access will be denied. So please assist Dave with the details, when he contacts you.

Following our Fort Campbell visit, Dave has made arrangements to have dinner at a brand new restaurant called Ciao Bella at Governor's Square Mall at 2801 Wilma-Rudolph Blvd., Clarksville, TN 37040. We should arrive for dinner around 4:00 PM. They've only been open for a couple of months, but are already garnering a solid reputation for outstanding, authentic Italian cuisine.

And last, but not least, following dinner, Mike will escort us to the Beachaven Winery in Clarksville for an evening of great live music by "Delicious Blues Stew" and outstanding Beachaven wine at Jazz On The Lawn (http://www.beachavenwinery.com/jazz.htm). The concert includes free admission & free parking.  All they ask, is that you buy a bottle of Beachaven wine to enjoy with the music.  You gotta admit, that's the best deal around ! The music always starts at 6:30 PM & goes until 9:30 PM.  Because seating is "general admission", it pays to get there around 5:00 PM to get both a good parking spot & a good viewing spot on the lawn. And, with limited seating, it would be good to either have a large blanket to spread on the ground or a couple of "chairs-in-a-bag" to settle into to & enjoy the evening.

As you can see, Dave & Mike have quite a day planned for our members to enjoy. Just let Dave know you will be participating. Please RSVP by no later than May 8th to (dvh@tds.net) OR (615) 758-9134 (H) OR (615) 516-8001 (C). And, if you can't make it all day, feel free to join us for the Fort Campbell segment, or the Ciao Bella/Beechaven segment.
