SEPT 30 - OCT 3rd
2010 INTERNATIONAL STORYTELLING
FESTIVAL IN JONESBOROUGH TN
SPONSORED BY GRAY & CANDACE SANDS
Gray & Candy are issuing an invitation for the Music City Miata Club to join them for a
very special event. They would like for you to join them, as they travel back in time to Jonesborough, Tennessee, to experience the 38th Annual International Storytelling Festival.
Jonesborough is the oldest town in Tennessee, established in 1779 by the General Assembly of North Carolina, as county seat of Washington County, first county west of the mountains. In 1784, the State of Franklin was organized here, with Jonesborough as its first capital. So Jonesborough is steeped in history and has been preserved to provide us with a glimpse of true Tennessee heritage.
Jonesborough is widely known as the International Storytelling Capital. Once each year, in October, when our colorful Tennessee autumn begins to settle over the southern Appalachian Mountains, people journey from far and wide to Jonesborough to celebrate the stories, traditions and art of Storytelling.
They come 10,000 strong, to share in the stories, storytellers and storytelling traditions of our world culture. You are welcome to join the Music City Miata Club for the 2010 International Storytelling Festival, www.storytellingcenter.com/festival/tellers.htm , the world's premier storytelling event, and we know you'll enjoy every minute of it.
The Festival includes traditional featured storytellers, such as Sheila Kay Adams, out of a small community in western NC, who passes on the rich musical heritage of her ancestors as a seventh generation ballad singer, and who has also performed at the Smithsonian Folklore Festival.
Then there's Willy Claflin, who has performed in the British Isles, and brings a wealth of stories and puppet monologues to his repertoire of traditional and original songs.
A perennial crowd favorite, Bill Lepp shares outrageous tall tales, and is five-time champion of the West Virginia Liar's Contest. His tales often contain morsels of truth, shedding light on such diverse subjects as politics, relationships and human nature.
In 2009, Midnight Cabaret featured John McCutcheon, an impressive instrumentalist, who has amazing incite and a voracious appetite for all things Southern, on Friday night, and the Chic Street Man, who uses his guitar and voice to create acoustic bluesy ballads, funky rhythms and jazzy upbeat originals on Saturday night.
The Ghost Story Concert is featured on both Friday & Saturday evening, as is the (Adults Only) Midnight Cabaret. Story telling tents are set up all over town, and the selection is so great, it will be hard to decide which storytelling performances you want to attend. It's wall to wall stories & yarns for three days. And, if you want to take a break, we'll select some great backroads across Roan Mountain to enjoy the fall scenery in upper East Tennessee.
If you are interested in joining this outing, just let Gray or Candace know, and they will reserve a room for you at the Sleep Inn in Johnson City, for easy access to Jonesborough. The group discounted price is $99. If you can only make it up for two nights, just let us know. We will also send you the 2010 Festival Registration Form, so you can make your reservations for any and/or all of this year's presentations. Please note that advanced group discounts, at $130.00 per person, for all three days, ends on March 31. Reasonable refunds are available if you have to cancel out.
The Sands would love to have your company in Jonesborough in October. Just let them know as soon as you decide at graype@bellsouth.net or (615) 794-9852.
