Sept. 12
Waterfall Walkers, Wartrace & Wine
Sponsored by the Nancy & Charlie Hagood
The Hagoods have a special day planned for the Music City Miata Club on Sept. 12.
You may want to familiarize yourself with the Walking Horse breed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennessee_Walking_Horse) before you make the trek to Shelbyville "The Walking Horse Capital of the World" with the Hagoods. If you ever wondered why the people of Tennessee chose the Walking Horse to represent the State of Tennessee to the outside world, you are about to find out. Tennessee Walker represents the best of the "refined pleasure horse" world.
The Tennessee Walking Horse has a reputation for having a very good disposition. It is a calm and easygoing breed, typically easy to train. While the horses are famous for flashy movement, they are quite hardy, popular for trailand pleasure riding as well as show.
Tennessee Walkers, as they are commonly known, are generally black, chestnut, sorrel, bay, or champagne; Other colors patterns such as roan and pinto are common. Recently, the breed registry began to recognize the sabino pattern, and it must be noted that many horses registered in the past as roans were, in some cases, sabinos. Walkers are generally 15 to 17 handstall, but can range from 13.2hh to 18hh. Weight is generally between 900 and 1,200 pounds.
In conformation, the Walker is a tall horse with a long neck and sloping shoulder. The head is traditionally large but refined in bone, with small well-placed ears. The horse has a fairly short back, short strong coupling, and an elongated stride. In the show arena, Walking horses are known for their gliding running walk and are usually shown with long manes and tails.
The Hagoods have made arrangements for a private tour of one of the best known Walking Horse farms in Shelbyville, "Waterfall Farms." Waterfall Farms at 2395 Hwy. 64 East, Shelbyville, TN (http://www.waterfallfarms.com/) is a world class horse breeding farm, nestled in the middle of walking horse country. And it is a beautiful state of the art facility, with a dedicated and knowledgeable staff, supporting its position as one of the greatest breeding operations in the industry’s history. It's a real show piece.
Following the Waterfall Farm tour, we'll amble on down to Wartrace Tennessee to (of all places) the Walking Horse Hotel at 101 Spring Street Wartrace, TN, with host 'Joe Peters.' Joe is in the process of converting the Hotel to a customer friendly food & music venue, and is opening the Hotel/Restaurant on the 12th especially for our Club event.
Lunch will be served at about 12:30 p.m. with live music presented by local musicians for our listening pleasure. Price of the buffet meal is $20 per person, including tax & tip. Please get your checks made out to "MCMC" to Charles Hagood at 479 Franklin Road, Franklin, TN 37064 by no later than Sept 9. For those of you who have never eaten at the Walking Horse Hotel, the experience should be on par with that at Mary BoBo's in Lynchburg.
Following lunch, the Hagood's have one more treat for you before closing out this event. They will be making their way through Bell Buckle to Hwy 96 in Eagleville back up into central Williamson County to the Arrington Vineyard (http://www.arringtonvineyards.com/), for a sampling of some great Tennessee wine.
Founded by Kix Brooks, Arrington Vineyards is located 25 minutes south of Nashville among the beautiful rolling hills of Arrington, TN. We invite you to come experience their award winning wines, spectacular vineyard views from their covered deck, and possibly some live music and a breathtaking sunset. You may want to bring your "chairs-in-a-bag" and possibly some snacks to go with the wine, as we celebrate the close of another enjoyable MCMC event.
The whole day will start out 7 a.m. for Breakfast at the Franklin Cracker Barrel at 4210 Franklin Common Court, Franklin, TN (I-65 at Exit 65). The group will be pulling out for points south at about 8:15 a.m. Be sure and have a full belly, an empty bladder, a full tank and fresh batteries in your FRS radio as we mosey south to Shelbyville on some great backroads.
WELL, there you have it. As you can see, the Hagoods have the "goods." And they want to share them all with you. All you need to do is call (615-599-4064 / 615-415-8963) or email (Chancy47@gmail.com) you plan to join them on the 12th. And, don't forget to get them your check for the meal at the Walking Horse Hotel. z.z.z.
