MAY DAY! MAY DAY!
Calling All Miatas. The Chryslers have come up with an absolutely great way to spend a perfect Day in May with your Miata and friends. They are inviting the Club to join them on an tour of the Shiloh National Military Park in Shiloh, TN.
We'll start the day with a hearty breakfast at 10 a.m. at The Loveless Cafe (http://www.lovelesscafe.com/) at 8400 Hwy 100 at the northern terminus of the Natchez Trace. It is well known among native Nashvillians as one of the best places in town for a good country breakfast.
The Chryslers will be pulling out from The Loveless Cafe at 11 a.m. sharp, with a full belly, full tank and an empty bladder -- and hitting the Natchez Trace toward Savannah, TN. Many of you know The Natchez Trace Parkway (http://www.nps.gov/natr) as a 444 mile long National Scenic Byway & All American Road stretching from Nashville ,TN, to Natchez, MS. We'll take a leisurely stroll through the Park, with an occasional stop to stretch, relieve and check out the scenery and wildlife.
We should arrive in Savannah, TN, around 1:30 p.m., where we'll make a pit stop for anyone requiring gas and to pick up some snacks to tide us over till dinner. Then on to Shiloh, 8 miles to the South.
Shiloh National Military Park (731-689-5696 or http://www.nps.gov/shil/) was established in 1894 to preserve the scene of the first major battle in the Western theater of the Civil War. The two-day Battle of Shiloh, April 6 and 7, 1862, produced (officially) 23,746 killed, wounded & missing casualties out of 109,784 men engaged.
The first large scale battle of the war, Shiloh's horrific casualty list took the North and South by surprise. It proved to be a decisive victory for the Federal forces when they advanced on and seized control of the Confederate railway system at Corinth, MS. The battlefield contains about 4,000 acres and has within its boundaries the Shiloh National Cemetery, along with the well preserved prehistoric Indian mounds that are listed as a historic landmark on the west bank of the Tennessee River.
The Chryslers plan on obtaining a CD for a rolling self-guided tour of the Park beginning around 2 p.m. They are planning on a simo-audio FM broadcast to all the cars in our group. At the conclusion, we'll all head to Pickwick Landing State Park (http://www.state.tn.us/environment/parks/PickwickLanding/index.shtml) on Park Road in Pickwick Dam, TN, arriving at around 5:30 p.m. There, we'll board a new sternwheeler riverboat by the name of The Pickwick Belle (http://www.pickwickbelle.com/).
The boat will be pushing off at 6 p.m. for an enjoyable and scenic sunset cruise on beautiful Pickwick Lake on this wonderful day in May. And we'll all enjoy a nice sit down dinner consisting of drink, 1/2 Bar-B-Qued Chicken, Flame Roasted Corn, Oven Roasted Potatoes, with Bread Pudding for Dessert. During the cruise, live music and entertainment will be provided by the Alabama Jubilee, with Songs & Comedy of the 40's, 50's & 60's, with Country Legends.
The cost of the Dinner & Cruise is $35.99 per person (including discount of $3 for groups of 30) plus Tax & Tip of $10.17, for a total of $47.16 each. Linda has (30) reservations on hold. The cutoff for your Pickwick Belle reservation is on April 17. So be sure and RSVP to Linda or Mike at mikechry@att.net or 615-907-1553 and get them a check made out 'MCMC.' Please send your check to them at 3228 Madison Avenue, Murfreesboro, TN 37130 by
NO LATER than April 17. They cannot guarantee your reservation without full payment by that date.
Following the evening cruise on the Belle, we'll return to the dock at 8 p.m. and should be back in Nashville by no later than 10:30 p.m.
Well, them's the plans fans. What a May Day. And we do hope you will join the Chryslers on the Trace, at Shiloh and won't "Miss the Boat" on this Great Spring Outing.
