August 14 & 15
HOTLANTA / STONED & BRAVE

Sponsored by Sam & Chrissy Billante

Sam & Chrissy Billante are inviting you on a trip, a

Summertime trek to the Heart of Dixie. Where things slow down a bit and the livin' is easy. They would like for you to join them for a two-day trek to Hotlanta to check out Stone Mountain and the Atlanta Braves on Saturday, Aug. 14 and Sunday Aug. 1an. And, as usual, Sam & Chrissy want to make this a special weekend that you won't soon forget.

We'll start out by assembling for breakfast at Cracker Barrel at the intersection of I-24 and U.S.231 (Exit 81B) at 7:30am CDT. Before departure, be sure and fill your belly, your tank and empty your bladder. At 8:30am, we'll take off cross-country on nothing but good Tennessee backroads to and through Cleveland, TN. There will be one rest stop along the way. Sam will stop for lunch somewhere in the vicinity of Copper Hill, TN, or Blue Ridge GA.

Then we'll head out due south on some great Miata roads, through the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia into and through Dahlonega, GA, then make a bee-line for Atlanta with an ETA of 3:30pm EDT. We'll check into the Comfort Inn & Suites, at 5355 Stone Mountain Hwy 78, Stone Mountain, GA. (770) 465-1888 http://www.comfortinn.com/hotel-stone_mountain-georgia-GA287?sid=GOwn.$Z0dtgo5U.14

Located only a half mile from the entrance of Stone Mountain Park, the hotel provides smoke-free King rooms, with a free Continental breakfast, an indoor heated pool and wireless I-net service for $79.99, plus Tax. No need to contact the Hotel. The room will be held for you, unless cancelled. We'll move in, freshen up, then grab a blanket, our chairs-in-a bag and our picnic dinner and head over to the Park around 4:30pm EDT. An entrance fee of $10 per car includes parking and access to the evening show.

Stone Mountain Park http://www.stonemountainpark.com/default.aspx offers various sightseeing/entertainment activities, including the Duck Ride, the Sky Hike, the Summit Skylift, the Scenic Railroad and the Crossroads. But the real "draw" is the truly Spectacular Laser Light Show, which begins precisely at dusk (around 9:30PM) http://www.stonemountainpark.com/attractions-shows/attraction-detail.aspx?AttractionID=52.

This show combines a high-tech presentation of light effects on the face of Stone Mountain, along with Surround Sound and a huge fireworks finale. The carvings on the mountain face, which are larger than Mt. Rushmore, actually seem to come to life. More than 20 Million visitors have marveled at the world's longest running laser show.

The plan is to find a good place on the lawn in front of the mountain, lay out our blankets, chairs and spread out our picnic goodies and chow down. If you would prefer, there or various food vendors close by in the Park where you can buy your dinner. But our experience is that having an old-fashion picnic on the lawn at the base of Stone Mountain, gets you in the right mood for the evening.

Sunday morning, we'll get a bite at the hotel, check out at around 10:30am and head over to Turner field to catch America's team, the Atlanta Braveshttp://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=atl , going against the Los Angeles Dodgers at 1:30pm. Sam has selected some Upper Box seats with a group price of $18, that include a $10 concession/souvenir stand credit voucher. He can't "lock in" the group discount, until we have at least 20 clubmembers signed on for the trip. We will also get a (group) discounted parking deal in the Green Lot for $10 per car, again with a minimum of 20 members and advance reservations. These spots will be reserved, if we respond early before the lot fills up. If you've never attended a MLB game at Turner Field, you are in for a real treat.

Following the game at around 4:30pm, we'll head North up I-75 and stop off in Marietta at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen at 2830 Windy Hill Road in Marietta, GA (770) 984-8899. It's quite a dining experience with some of the freshest seafood you've ever tasted. Check out their Menu at http://pappaspizza.net/images/dyn/menus/menu_39.pdf. Following dinner we'll head home up the super slab to Nashville with an ETA of 10:00PM.

So, there you have it folks. Check it out andlet Sam know as soon as you decide, so he can lock in on the Group arrangements and discounts. You can RSVP at gantrobus@comcast.net, or at 615-371-8043. Then just settle back and get ready for a great weekend in the Southland.

ZOOM AWAY, WAY DOWN SOUTH IN DIXIE . . . . .
