CUMBERLAND FALLS MOONBOW & THE DEVIL'S TRIANGLE

Get ready for a real treat coming up over the horizon on August 13 & 14 (pun intended).

We plan on combining one of the most picturesque and least know waterfalls in the Cumberland Mountains of eastern Kentucky, with one of the least know Tennessee twisty backroads (with a bad boy reputation) into one weekend event in August. You might recall seeing Cumberland Falls in the classic movie "Last of the Mohicans" where the good guys slipped under to falls to get away from the bad guys ?

We'll gather at the Mt. Juliet Cracker Barrel for breakfast at 8:00AM on Saturday and pull out for the Cumberland Mountains at 9:00AM. When we get to Crossville, we'll head north and east thru Wartburg, Frozen Head, Petros, one leg of the Devil's Triangle, Braytown, Smokey Junction & Onieda. Then we'll shoot north up U.S. 27 into the Daniel Boone National Forest and thru Strunk, Pine Knot, Beulah Heights & Honeybee into Cumberland Falls State Resort Park.

We'll check into the Park Resort, enjoy a nice dinner in their rustic restaurant, then with a little help from above (literally), slip down to the "Falls" for a glimpse of one of the very unique natural wonders of the world. An Honest to God "MOONBOW." It's formed when the Full Moon hits the mist rising from the spray in the bottom of the canyon. This is suppose to be a 'big deal', one that people travel hundreds of miles to see. And it only happens one time on a Saturday night during top down weather in 2011. Hopefully it will not be ,and we hear a bunch of "oooh's & ahhh's from the group.

Following a good nights rest & breakfast in the Park Lodge, we'll make tracks back into Tennessee and hit another leg of the Devil's Triangle in Lake City. From there, we'll take back roads into Cookeville and have lunch at a new restaurant recommended by Laura Key, The Blue Plate Grille at 1385 Interstate Drive. Following lunch we'll make the run back into Nashville and should be home shortly after 3:00PM.

We have reserved (15) rooms at the Cumberland Falls Resort for the evening of August 13. It is usually booked solid on any weekend with a full moon. The negotiated group rate for MCMC is $89.99 and is due as a deposit when you call Amanda Grubb at (606) 528-4125 x402 to make your reservation under the "MCMC" group block. Rooms cannot be cancelled after July 14th without penalty. All unclaimed reservations will be released at midnight on July 13th and will no longer be available. SO, July 13th is the event cutoff.
