April 24
GO AROUND - MCMC Hookup with the Experimental Aircraft Association
- Sponsored by Dave Van Hoven

Dave has planned a very unique outing for the Music City Miata Club. He is planning a "Hookup" between two very different groups of enthusiasts, subtitled "The Road Zoomies Meet the Winged Zoomers."

Dave has a background involving aircraft and is still involved with a Middle Tennessee organization that enjoys flying around the countryside and meeting up at various municipal, regional and private airports. The Experimental Aircraft Association has just such an event planned for Saturday, April 24.

For this "half-day" event, two groups will be flying into the Shelbyville Tennessee Airport for Breakfast sponsored by Local Chapter 1326. And not just any breakfast. They usually pull out all the stops and prepare a meal fit for a growing country boy. For just $5 per head, the menu includes coffee, fruit juice, scrambled eggs, sausage, gravy & biscuits and more. And they have issued a special invitation for the Music City Miata Club to join them for the occasion. And, of course, Dave jumped right in and accepted on our behalf.

And there will be plenty of time to meet and greet the pilots and owners in a close one-on-one situation. They, just like us, are very pleased to share their experiences and generally "Yak" about their "Rides." And, at some point, you might ask if you could climb aboard their aircraft. Don't be bashful, just ask politely. They are great folks who like to share, just like you. And, by all means, invite them to see your "special ride" as well.

With some good weather, we can expect to see a goodly number of aircraft, perhaps 25 to 35 of various types, some home built kits and known manufactured types. All sorts, fast, slow, racy, ex-military and, of course, some really weird ones. You just never know what's going to show up. We anticipate a great morning event, involving some good food, some new friends and a whole bunch of interesting aircraft. Be sure and bring a camera, cause Dave should have a photo opportunity or two up his sleeve.

We will gather at the Cracker Barrel at Exit 81B & I-24 at 7:30am and depart for the Shelbyville Airport at 2828 Highway 231 at 8am. When we arrive, we'll park our cars on the grass in front of the airport terminal (to avoid prop wash), hang our club Banner on the fence and head right in for breakfast, being served from 7:30 till 10am. Following the pig-out, we'll watch the balance of any planes land, then mingle, hang about and share your Miata experiences with the aviators.

For those of you who might be interested in doing a few backroads before heading home, we may make a run down to Lynchburg before heading back to Nashville. We'll probably be breaking out around 10am, or so.

If you plan on joining Dave for this unusual event, be sure and RSVP todvh@tds.net or 615-758-9134 or 615-516-8001(C) so he can make sure there's enough "grub." Be sure and sport you Music City Miata Club attire, magnets, T-shirts, hats, etc. If you want to do some homework before the gathering go to:www.shelbyvilletnairport.org OR www.shelbyvillesportflyers.com for EAA Chapter 1326.
