Once again, the club will be headed to east Tennessee to attend the “Zoomin the Mountains of East Tennessee” regional event in Johnson City. One of the more social and highly attended regional Miata gatherings……and yes….(here it comes)….it’s the one with HIGH SPEED LAPS of BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY!!! The event schedule and activities have not been finalized yet by the event organizers, but will include: evening of fun at Bristol (worth the trip alone), drive-outs over fantastic Miata roads, car show, various activities, and culminating on the final night with a party including catered dinner, live music and auction.
While the event officially kicks off on Wednesday afternoon, the MCMC, will depart Nashville Thursday morning (June 7, time to be announced later) from the Mt Juliette Cracker Barrel. Those that have the extra vacation time to burn and want to depart a day or two earlier to get there in time for the official start of the event are welcome to do so. As we’ve done in the past, the ride down will minimize interstate mileage and take advantage of the twisty two-lanes through scenic, downright bucolic countryside. Additional details, such as event fees and daily schedule will be provided as they become available. In the past, fees were reasonable and charged a la cart – so you only paid for what you wanted.
If you think that you might be interested in going, it is important that you make your hotel reservations now. There is another event in town the same week and the hotel needs a 50% booking from our event by Apr 1 to block out the entire facility for us. Based on past experience though, this event generates a high level of interest, drawing Miata fans from all over the country (even Alaska) and will likely book up quickly.
You can make your reservations directly with the Johnson City Holiday Inn, 101 W. Springbrook Dr Johnson City TN (423-282-4611). Rooms are $83 (plus tax) per night. Be sure to tell them you are with the Zoomin the Mountains Miata event. You’ll also want to make sure you talk with the hotel itself and not the corporate reservation folks – their computer will show that the hotel booked up already.
Finally, be sure to drop an email to our sponsors, Gregg and Chere’ Mikos, to let them know that you are interested and will receive future emails about this event.
