The “Ides of February” is approaching! Yes, Valentine’s Day is Feb. 14!
With its origins in Pagan history which was later supported by a Christian observance called “Feast of Saint Valentine,” Valentine’s Day is observed by people in many countries.
In 18th century England, it evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by the giving of flowers and confectioneries. During the 19th century, paper Valentine cards became so popular that there were mass produced in factories.
Today in the U.S. about 190 million Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, no including the many cards exchanged by school children. Valentine’s Day has become increasingly commercialized and popular for gift giving. Average Valentine’s Day spending was $108 per person in the U.S. in 2010.
ENOUGH with the history of VALENTINE’s DAY! Let’s continue a Music City Miata Club tradition of celebrating Valentine’s Day with a fun, back-roads drive in our Miatas, and enjoying a special meal with our MCMC friends (singles and couples)!
This year, we will be traveling some twisties to Walling, TN (near Rock Island) and have a great meal at the Foglight Foodhouse overlooking the Caney Fork River. They have offered to open early for our club only so that we may all be seated in the main dining area and not be limited on the number of members as in the past!
They have requested that we notify them of interest in steak orders so that they will not run out later in the day/night so please indicate when you RSVP to David/Barbara Williams if you want steak. (see MENU) Either call Barbara’s Cell (615) 347-4838 or email to email@example.com to let them know if you plan to join them asap so that they can give the restaurant a head count!
NOTE: They do not have wine available but welcome you to bring your own & charge a reasonable wine glass fee; they do however have a beer menu available upon request and soft drinks, tea, etc.!
We will depart the Mt Juliet Cracker Barrel Restaurant (just off I-40 at Exit 226) at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10. Since we plan to be seated @ 2:30 pm and eat around 3 pm, we should allow time to eat a light breakfast at CB or elsewhere.
