The “chill” in the air is a reminder that winter is just around the corner. Please join David & Barbara Williams on Saturday, November 18th for this year’s final one day road trip. (Christmas Party, Governor’s Mansion are not considered road trips) We will venture south to Florence, AL for a day of discovery and fellowship.
Our day will start at Cracker Barrel, 1534 Bear Creek Pike, Columbia, TN (I65 Exit 46), meeting at 8:00 a.m. and departing 8:30 a.m. sharp. Our scenic drive to the Florence area will include a fast food stop for lunch as we have a big Italian meal coming at us for dinner.
First we will visit a small building which had a profound effect on music history. We will tour the “Muscle Shoals Sound Studio,” which was founded in 1969 by 4 session musicians who left nearby “FAME” Studio (another successful recording studio in the area with a rich history). For 10 years, these musicians (nicknamed “The Swampers”) made history. Cher, Boz Scaggs, Art Garfunkel, Bob Seger, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and many more familiar artists recorded hit songs in this little building!
Next, we will visit “IVY GREEN” which is the childhood home of Helen Keller. Miss Keller contracted an unknown illness (i.e. scarlet fever or meningitis) at the age of 19 months which left her both blind and deaf. With the help of Anne Sullivan (the Miracle Worker) Miss Keller learned to speak, read and write. Helen Keller went on to become a world famous speaker and advocate for the disabled and many other causes. She met with every President from Grover Cleveland to Lyndon Johnson and was friends with many famous people including Alexander Graham Bell, Charlie Chaplin, and Mark Twain.
Next, we will visit “ROSENBAUM HOUSE” in Florence; this 1930’s house was designed by the world famous American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright for Stanly and Mildred Rosenbaum. The city of Florence has restored the home and tours are open to the public.
Dinner will be at the reasonably priced Ricatoni’s Italian Grille, home of the “Best Italian Food in the South”
We have planned an ambitious day indeed but a wonderful way to spend a Saturday. RSVP by Nov. 15 to David & Barbara at email@example.com or Call David (615) 347-2838; Barbara (615) 347-4988
